ABSTRACT

The purpose of this research is to find out the  synthesis complexes , formula, and characteristic of each complexes which was formed. Complexes of cobalt(II) with sulfadiazine and sulfamerazine had been synthesized in 12 : 2 and 6 : 1 mole ratio of metal to ligan in methanol.

The formula of complexes which were predicted from analysis of % Co in complexes by Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) are Co(sfdz)3(NO3)2(H2O)n (n = 2,3,4) and Co(smrz)4(NO3)2(H2O)n (n = 0,1,2,3,4). Charge ratios of cation and anion of complexes were measured by conductivitymeter correspond to 2:1 for both Co(II)-sulfadiazine and Co(II)-sulfamerazine. The thermal analysis was determined by Differential Thermal Analyzer (DTA) indicate that both of complexes contain  some hydrate.         Data of infra red spectras show a shift of NH2 group absorption and indicate this functional group is coordinated to the center ion by monodentat order. Magnetic susceptibility measurements show that complexes are paramagnetic with µeff = 4,59 – 4,97 BM. The molar absorptivity for Co(sfdz)3(NO3)2(H2O)n (n = 2,3,4) is 23,36 L.mol-1cm-1 while for Co(smrz)4(NO3)2(H2O)n (n = 0,1,2,3,4) is 27,19 L.mol-1cm-1 indicates that the structure of both complexes are octahedral with formulas [Co(sfdz)3(H2O)3](NO3)2.nH2O(n=0,1)and [Co(smrz)4(H2O)2](NO3)2.nH2O(n= 0,1,2).
